One Room Challenge: Reveal

OMG we completed our very first One Room Challenge! We are loving our new master bedroom and I am SO excited to finally share it with you, but first let’s start with before.

THE BEFORE:

As you can see the before isn’t terrible. It feels minimal in a cool Scandi way, but it’s lacking symmetry, cohesiveness and personality.  Since we moved into our new home 4 months ago, this room was given no love. We wanted to upgrade to a king size bed (holy game changer!) so this meant changing up the layout, refreshing with all new furniture and accessories and a little construction work to build out the main wall to make it flush.

What I love about the space? How bright, light and airy it feels. What I don’t love about the space? The unbalanced feel and the current mix of furniture. The challenge? Creating a space that feels bright and minimal, but also feels complete, beautiful and has additional storage.

THE AFTER:

I spent a long time mulling over the design plan to make sure it was the perfect bedroom that reflected both of our personalities and needs. But the real star of this team is my boyfriend Chris, who worked endlessly over the last few weeks to pull this off. He constructed our new wall, painted, built our new bed, hung our light fixture and made our new custom headboard. I am beyond thankful for all of his help in bringing my design come to life and giving up his football Sunday’s for a few weeks. Thank you baby!

And can we talk about this custom headboard? *insert heart eye emoji* Chris made the headboard using 2 large sheets of plywood to give it some depth. We used an inexpensive piece of plywood for the backside and a maple plywood for the frontside. I literally could not be happier with the way it turned out!

We are SO happy with our new master bedroom. Turns out I love the green wall after all. Once I saw it all come together, the green totally worked for me.

And for the other side of the room….

I love how the details of a space can pull it all together. That’s where the magic lies!

I fell in love with a mirror a few months back by Ben & Aja Blanc and unfortunately it was just not in my budget. Although you can never replicate the true quality and gorgeousness of the original mirror, I decided to tackle making my own version. If you’re interested in knowing how I made this, let me know and I just might do a blog post about it!

This is the first time ever I designed a space from scratch for our own home and it feels incredible to have a space that is SO us! I’m calling this vibe minimal boho-scandi. AMIRIGHT?! If you are someone who loves allll the different styles out there and can’t quite figure out what your personal decor style is, I’ve created a fun quiz to help you with this. And word on the street is that it’s super accurate. Everyone should have a home that truly reflects their personal style.
